Veterinary Technician
Position Overview:
The Veterinary Technician supports hospital operations by providing dedicated quality veterinary care and exceptional service to our patients and clients. Responsibilities include providing patient care by determining animal requirements, conducting examinations and diagnostic procedures, assisting during surgery and operations, providing nursing care, assisting with feeding and caring for patients, maintaining medical supplies and equipment, overseeing triage and discharging patients, and maintaining patient medical records.
Essential Position Functions:
Data recording
- Completing daily billing records
- Entering billing records into eVet Practice software (in vehicle and in stables)
- Referencing medical records for doctors.
- Entering medical records into eVet Practice software (in vehicle and in stable).
- Taking pictures and videos of patients as needed.
Vehicle Maintenance
- Stocking Vehicles with medications (not equipment or fluids).
- Keeping vehicle clean and orderly (maintaining inside of vehicles).
- Taking to car wash and oil changes.
Communications
- Leaving vehicles and entering stable to check-in with trainers and owners.
- Relaying communications between office, client and doctors.
Procedure Preparations
- Preparing trays, scrub containers with cotton, gauze, bandage materials and the like.
- Drawing up medications into syringes and fluids.
Handling
- Ability to halter and lead horses to and from stall and barns
- Ability to jog off horses for lameness and flexions.
- Scrubbing and prepping for exams, injections and emergencies.
- Always be aware if horse behaviors (young and fractious horses)
- Ability to restrain horse for procedures.
- Holding horse for imaging or holding x-ray plate for imaging.
- Holding fluids during administration.
Equipment
- Setting up and breaking down x-ray, ultrasound and routine equipment’s.
- Adding or removing equipment from vehicles/ office.
- Transferring images from x-ray or ultrasound to PACS machine.
