Shift Leader - Veterinary Emergency
Position Overview:
The Emergency Shift Leader is a working supervisor who performs the duties of medical technical staff (e.g., technicians and assistants). Expedite the care and efficiency of the department. In charge of patient care standards for the department. Must lead the team by example by demonstrating organizational skills, following company policies, and maintaining a professional attitude.
Essential Functions:
- Addresses concerns of staff and doctors while on duty and responds appropriately or directs concerns to the department manager or hospital manager if needed
- Manages schedule/staffing during shift (receives and documents late or call out calls, sends staff home when appropriate, calls in additional staff when needed).
- Up to date on and trains, if needed, all appropriate training, procedural, and protocol guidelines for the team and ensures staff compliance during shift.
- Verbal discussions with staff for issues concerning procedure and/or protocol of the daily job functions
- Corrects and/or praises staff on duty for performance during shift
- Administrative duties as delegated by the Emergency Department Supervisor.
- Utilization of staff to ensure efficient patient care and flow.
- Interdepartmental liaison while on shift.
- Ensure the safety of staff and patients and follow the hospital safety guidelines during an emergency.
- Address client concerns when staff members feel uncomfortable or unable to alleviate them.
- Troubleshoot equipment as needed and keep the facility manager and department manager apprised.
- Ensure charges are entered promptly and correctly throughout the shift to allow clients to receive proper financial updates.
- Monitor inpatient invoices and help determine if additional care plans are needed.
- The beginning shift assessment of treatment sheets will include up-to-date documentation of current instrumentation and verifying that all treatments match the doctor's orders.
- Ensure staff is completing all end-of-shift duties before leaving and downtime tasks as able during shift.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or the equivalent.
- Licensed Veterinary Technician with good standings in the state of VA
- At least one year of employment at Hope Advanced Veterinary Center, preferably in the ER department.

- Complete 12 continuing education hours with at least 1 being in leadership development yearly.

Scheduling Supervisor Essential Functions:
- Ensure all shifts are appropriately and evenly scheduled at least one month in advance.
- Input schedule into Dayforce and Homebase in a timely fashion.
- Approve PTO requests and ensure PTO is entered correctly.
- Monitor timesheets for missed punches and correct the oversight.
