General Practice Technician Supervisor - Berkeley Dog and Cat Hospital
Position Overview:
Berkeley Dog & Cat Hospital is a unique hospital offering Emergency Medicine, General Practice, Surgery and Dentistry. We have been providing our clients and their beloved pets with advanced and compassionate veterinary care since 1907. We are dedicated to providing the best possible service to our patients. We looking for a full time General Practice Technician Supervisor to partner with the Leadership team to co-lead our busy and growing team of RVTs and Veterinary Assistants in our various departments. We are fortunate to have passionate and hardworking team members providing high level nursing care to our patients. This is an opportunity to grow in the field and help shape future technicians as well as to shape a hospital. This role is part of our Leadership Team and the Technician Supervisors work closely with our Hospital Manager, Technician Director, Operations Manager and ER Technician Supervisor to shape the direction of the practice. To be successful in this position the right individual will spend 90% of their time on the floor providing hands on training, supporting the team and leading by example.
Responsibilities:
- Supervise technicians and other medical personnel in assigned department, evaluating performance (introductory and annual), reviewing time reporting, enforcing company policies and communicating new practices and policies regarding technical duties; participate in selection and discipline of staff.
- Schedule staff according to departmental needs, monitoring and regulating overtime hours worked by staff, ensuring proper coverage in times of shortage.
- Administer on-call schedule as well as standard schedule for staff.
- Train new staff in their responsibilities; mentor all staff regarding performance and training needs.
- Perform the duties of technician or assistant, as scheduled.
- Liaison with other departments and supervisors regarding patient care and hospital operations; resolve issues, as needed.
- Oversee cleaning, stocking, and inventory duties for the department.
- Exhibit confidentiality and professionalism in all regards for employee issues; be proactive in approach to issue resolution.
- Keep hospital management informed of any issues or risks that might impact operations or employee relations; work with management team to resolve.

Qualifications:
- High School Diploma required.
- RVT license preferred
- 3-4 plus year of veterinary technician experience
- High level of competence in the complete range of veterinary technician skills.

Additional Notes:
- Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT), Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT), Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT), or the Licensed Veterinary Medical Technician (LVMT) preferred or equivalent experience.
- Registered Veterinary Technician (RVT) or must possess or be eligible to be granted a Veterinary Assistant Controlled Substances Permit (VACSP) in California or equivalent as required by other states.
